  Es dürfte sich […] empfehlen, auch für die beiden Stufen des Kernphasenwechsels Ausdrücke zu wählen, die sich nicht unmittelbar auf die haploide oder diploide Chromosomenzahl selbst beziehen. Ich schlage die Ausdrücke Gamophase für Haplophase und Zygophase für Diplophase vor. Gamophase soll andeuten, daß in dem so benannten Abschnitt des Kernphasenwechsels die reduzierte Chromosomenzahl vorkommt, wie sie normalerweise für die Gameten wesentlich ist
