  Our knowledge of the mechanism of invasion and healing in pneumococcus infections generally, and more particularly in lobar pneumonia, is as yet very incomplete. To penetrate more deeply into such mechanism and to apply newer developments in immunology, the result primarily of the researches of Wright and Douglas, is the object of this investigation.
