A.T.P.A.T.P. (ger.)

• Adenosine triphosphate, a nucleotide synthesized in the mitochondria of all animal and plant cells during the Krebs cycle. Its main function is to store energy, which it liberates when it is converted by ATPase to ADP during nerve impulses or muscular contractions. It is also converted by adenylate cyclase into cyclic AMP, which functions as a second messenger. (Oxford Dict. of Psychology 2009)
